Natural Hair | Twist and Curl feat. Wonder Curl

Hey Everyone,

Recently, I teamed up with Wonder Curl and had the opportunity to try out a few of their products to share with you. I was super excited about the collaboration because not only are the products super
organic and free of harsh chemicals and parabens and all the not so good stuff, but the owner Scarlett is super sweet, genuine, and really believes in her brand and what it stands for. She’s a one woman team and still creates her products by hand, so this is a labor of love to her. I really admired that about her and really wanted to team up. So, for the past few weeks I’ve been trying out her products and really  putting them to the test and trying them out in different hairstyles.

In my first video and review, I decided to bring you all my Twist and Curl hairstyle.  I featured the following products.

•  Detoxifying Clay Cleanser is a gentle cleanser that helps to detangle the hair while it removes dirt and build-up from both the hair and scalp. It contains Kaolin Clay which helps to revitalize dry
and itchy scalps.  It also includes shea butter, avocado butter, olive oil, safflower oil, and castor oil which are all proven to be beneficial to the hair and scalp. This product is rather thick and took me a minute to get used to, because it isn’t your typical cleanser, but it really did leave my hair feeling super soft and clean once it was rinsed out.

•  Restoring Hair Treatment is an intensive deep hair treatment that helps to strengthen the hair and provide moisture into the hair. It contains many great ingredients such as, olive oil which penetrates
the hair cuticles and helps deposit moisture, avocado which helps promote hair growth and stop hair loss, shea butter to aide with dryness and a host of other oils and hair vitamins that all helps to stimulate growth and maintain moisture.  This product is creamy and coats the hair rather nicely and helps with the detangling process as well.

•  Butter Than Love Pudding has aloe barbedensis leaf juice, castor oil, and shea butter in it.  It is free of harsh chemicals and is also fragrance free.  This butter helps by providing moisture without
weighing the hair down, so it is ideal to use when layering products and is great for wash’n’gos as well as twist-outs and braid-outs. I love the fact that it is light weight and that a little bit of the
product goes a long way.

•  Get Set Hair Jelly has organic aloe juice, pro-vitamin B5, and even contains vegetable glycerin.  It is also Paraben, Sulfate and Silicon free. This styler instantly smooths away frizz and adds shine to the hair all while giving any style great definition. This product is ideal for wash’n’gos as it will help you maintain the style for many days and is also great for twist-outs and braid-outs with the definition it provides. It will say that the product does feel a bit sticky on the hands, but once you apply it to the hair it melts into the hair and doesn’t leave any residue.  This product will be a staple for me when I do my wash’n’gos. (More to come on that a little later,so stay tuned)

Hair Tools Used:
Denman Brush
Rat Tail Comb

Hairstyle Maintenance:
Pineapple the hair at night and sleep with a satin bonnet or scarf or on a satin pillowcase.  You can also put the hair into chucky twists to maintain the definition. No further product should be required, you can mist the hair with water to reactive the product that has already applied before you re-twist the hair.

How To Straighten Natural Hair | The Mane Choice

Hey Everyone,

I don't know about you, but when I straighten my natural hair I can't seem to get it as silky and straight as a hair stylist or blow out specialist would if I was to hand over that $150. LOL!  You guys know I am all about DIY Hairstyles, so when I tried my hand at flat ironing my own natural hair in the past, it just doesn't seem to flow and definitely doesn't have the lasting power to withstand humidity or a straightened naturals most feared nightmare "The Rain"!!!

Well....I hadn't straightened my hair myself in over a year, so I was thinking it was about time and was recently able to collaborate with www.TheManeChoice.com and try out their do it yourself/at home 5 Step Thermal Defense Silkening Collection. I must say that I was honestly impressed with how well my hair straightened with only (1) pass of the flatiron, but I ended up doing (2) and I was excited that my hair didn't start reverting back as soon as I finished.  The collection is full of products that are designed and formulated to help prevent premature reversion of natural hair and helps to maintain the sleek look for longer without achieving damage *if used properly and used with the correct amount of heat was used for your hair*

This is certainly not a hair straightening system as it doesn't promise to elongate your natural hair after use and nor does it permanently straighten natural hair, but it is a collection that will help you achieve maximum results should you chose to flatiron your natural hair.  This collection in conjunction with the Give It To Me Straight Collection and the Green Tea & Carrot Deep Conditioning Mask are a win win combination. The results speak for themselves!!!!

 I USED THE FOLLOWING:

  • Give It To Me Straight Moisturizing Shampoo is infused with Morrocan Argan Oil for incredible shine and frizz control and citric acid to remove build-up and restore pH balance to hair and scalp. This shampoo is safe for all hair types including color-treated hair, it lathers up easily with just a small amount, and it smells really nice and fresh.

  • Green Tea & Carrot Deep Conditioning Mask is packed with nourishing, healthy hair necessities like organic aloe juice, castor oil, sunflower oil, hydrolyzed wheat protein for strength, broccoli seed oil, which is great for frizz-control, coconut oil, green tea extract for protection and carrot seed oil, to treat the scalp, prevent breakage and protect from outside elements. It also has great slip allowing the product to coat the hair and detangle with ease.

  • Give It To Me Straight Leave-In Detangler is a lightweight mist infused with chamomile matricaria and aloe leaf juice for ultimate hydration, wheat amino acids for strength, sage extract to reduce shedding and enhance natural luster, and many other key ingredients that help keep the hair
  • moisturized and easy to detangle.

According to http://www.TheManeChoice.com this is "A complete collection of thermal styling products, especially formulated to help shield your hair from heat appliances so you can enjoy your styles with confidence. Do not let the pretty in pink packaging fool you. This thermal defense silkening collection has a professional grade quality and packs a lot of power. No more than a dime size per product is needed to thermally protect your hair and give it that sleek professional salon finish we all long for."

    The Steps Include The Following:
Step 1 - The Heat Silencer is formulated to strengthen hair, protect hair from heat applications, and repair damage.

Step 2 - Glisten To Me is formulated to protect hair from heat styling, smooth hair for ultimate shine,
temporarily straighten the hair, and repeal humidity.

Step 3 - Strand By Strand is formulated to, straighten & smooth strands, helps silken & glide while blow-drying, and helps reduce frizz.

Step 4 - A Silky Protection is formulated to add a silky brilliant shine, control frizz, mend frayed & frizzy ends, and provide extreme heat protection.

Step 5 - Let's Finish It is formulated to smooth frizz & flyaways, add an instant shine, and Finish your sleek & luscious look.  It also leaves your hair smelling amazing!!!

    Hair Tools Used:
    3-4 Hair Clips
    Denman Brush
    Gold'n'Hot Blow Dryer
    Chase Comb
    Flatiron

    Hairstyle Maintenance:
Wrap the hair up at night with a satin or silk scarf.  You could also add large rollers or flexirods to the hair and sleep with a satin bonnet for heatless curls.

Q-Redew Review | How To Take Your Natural Hair From Style To Style

    Hey Everyone,

Have you ever been ready to switch up your hairstyle but you are not quite ready to go through your whole wash day process? Well, according to the Q-Redew website and my experience, creating a new hairdo or refreshing your current hairdo can be done while using their handheld hair steamer.

Well let me tell you just what a Q-Redew is?
"The Q-Redew is a handheld hair steamer that quickly restores moisture, rejuvenates and reshapes hair using warm steam as mist. Used on dry hair it revives in minutes and leaves
    hair dry." - Q-Redew

There are tons of benefits for using the Q-Redew, such as, it helps add moisture to the hair, helps soften the hair, it opens up the hair shaft, and much much more.  Not only is it light weight and hand held, but for only $69.95 I would say it is definitely worth it.

I have been using mine for the past few weeks and I love how simple it is to use and I just love the results of using it. Most recently I wanted to see how it would work when it comes to reviving the hair and restoring moisture in between washes, so after wearing my hair in 2 French braids for about 4 days, I released the braids so that I could do a flat-twist out hair style.  Now normally, I would hav to rewash my hair to do this, but  I used the Q-Redew to help me accomplish that style.

Check Out My Q-Redew Review & Demo Below!!

As you can see....my results were #FLAWLESS!  The Q-Redew added moisture back into my hair by providing a soft misting/moistening to the hair and it softened my hair up allowing for an easy transition into my new hairstyle.  I love the finger/comb like attachments that detangle the hair as well.

I would definitely recommend the Q-Redew.  This little hand held hair steamer tool would be a great investment for any naturalista to have.

For more information about this hair steamer or to make a purchase check out their website at www.QRedew.com. There you will find a host of information and video tutorials about the Q-Review.

I want to hear from you. Have you used the Q-Redew before?  How was your experience? Let me know below.

Natural Hair Protective Hairstyle | feat. 15 Melbourne

    Hey Everyone,

It's definitely protective style season, so I wanted to bring you a super easy protective hairstyle that is actually two hairstyles in one.  You can go from a super easy protective up-do hairstyle during the week and then let it down for the weekend for a fun look. If you know how to flat-twist or twist, this will be the perfect hairstyle for you.

This protective hairstyle is brought to you by 15 Melbourne. 15 Melbourne is a New York based company founded by Evelyn.  This product line is all about handmade, organic and natural skincare products that can be used on the skin and the hair. This line is equipped with Cream Castile Soap (French Lavender and Pink Grapefruit scent), Organic Whipped Shea Butter (Lavender, Pink Grapefruit, and Bergamont & Geranium scents), and Organic Shea Lip Butter (Peppermint and Unscented).

For this hairstyle I used 15 Melbourne's Organic Whipped Shea Butter in the Pink Grapefruit scent.  This light weight shea butter mix has a soft scent and literally melts into the hair when applying.  I love the fact that a little bit of the shea butter goes a long way and keeps your hair thoroughly moisturized which is vital during the cooler months when our hair tends to be a bit drier.

This organic whipped shea butter has a dual purpose because it works wonderfully on the hair, but also does a great job of keeping the skin moisturized as well.  I often apply the Bergamot & Geranium shea butter on my heels of my feet at night before bed and this helps to keep them from becoming cracked and dry during this time of year.

I have definitely been loving their products and would definitely recommend them for anyone looking for a great shea butter mix that is ultra hydrating and moisturizing to the skin and hair.

If you aren't into making your own shea butter mix, I would suggest trying this out.  To find more information on 15 Melbourne, make sure you check out their website at www.15Melbourne.com and just as and FYI, they do provide free shipping on order $25 or more and they also include a free sample with every order.

    Crochet Braid with Marley Hair

    Hey Everyone,

One of the hottest trends going on right now is Crochet Braid with Marley Hair.  Yes, with Marley Hair. So many women on Instagram and YouTube have been sharing their version of this hairstyle and I absolutely love it.  I know I have already shared a cute kid friendly crochet braid hairstyle with you all that my daughter absolutely loves (check that out by clicking this link), but I wanted to come back and share this fabulous protective hairstyle with you all that looks so real your man or curlfriend will think it’s yours. LOL!!!

As I said before, this style has been all over the natural hair social forums and the realistic look of this style compelled me to give it a try in order to give my hair a little break. Continue reading to find out how I prepped my hair for the style, what I used, some tips, and of course a full How To YouTube Tutorial.

    Hair Prep:
I shampooed my hair with the Trader Joe Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo and followed up with a Deep Conditioning by using the Trader Joe Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner.  I let the conditioner sit on my head for about 30 mins with a plastic cap on before rinsing it out.

It is always important to make sure your hair is properly moisturized before doing a protective hairstyle.
Deep conditioning your hair is a great way to insure your hair is thoroughly moisturized and able to withstand being in a protective or covered up state.

    What I Used:
    ·         (3.5) packs of Femi Marley Braiding Hair
    ·         Naturalsis72 Hair Styling Butter
    ·         Denman Brush
    ·         Latch Hook
    ·         Hair Scissors
    ·         Perm Rods

    Total Time:
The total style took roughly 6 hours to complete.  That is from the shampooing process to the final rod take out and separation.

    Tips:
    ·         Give yourself plenty of time to commit to doing this style, this is no walk in the park, but can still be done.
    ·         Make sure you have a good braid base.  Your base/foundation will dictate how long the hairstyle will last.
    ·         Make sure you do smaller braids in the front of your head, which will allow you the option to change your parts easily and will give it a more natural look.
    ·         Use smaller pieces/sections of Marley hair in the front area.  That will also give you a more natural look making this appear as it came from your own head.
    ·         When dipping the rods into the boiled water for the back and crown section of your hair it would be best to have someone assist you.  (You can lay on your back or stomach to make the process easier)
Check out my YouTube Tutorial Below:

Below are a couple of YouTube videos that inspired me to try the style out.
