Protective Hairstyle Kid Friendly Twist'n'Bun

Hey Everyone,

I am back with another Kid Friendly Protective Hairstyle.  This style is a rendition of my popular “Twist’N’Bun Protective Hairstyle Video Tutorial, that I posted back in February.  A lot of women with hair a little shorter than mine were wondering how they too could achieve that very simple yet elegant protective hairstyle, so I created this look to give those women an idea on how they could get a similar look.

What I Used:
·         Hicks Edges Pomade
·         Eco Styler Gel (Argon Oil)
·         Hair Ties/Rubber Bands
·         Hair Pins/Bobbi Pins
·         Hair Clips
·         Hair Brush
·         (1) Pack of Kanekalon Braiding Hair
·         Hair Accessories
·         Rat Tail Comb

Side Note* Before doing any protective hairstyle, you want to make sure you start off with fresly washed and deep conditioner hair.  I used Trader Joes Tea Tree Tingle Shampoo and Conditioner on my daughters hair.

In the hairstyle tutorial below, I actually bring you 2 super cute and kid friendly hairstyles in 1.  I hope you and your little one enjoy the looks and hopefully will try them out.  Make sure you leave a comment and let me know if you did!

Natural Hairstyle for Kids (Flat-Twist and Roller Set Hairstyle)

Hey Everyone,

I am bringing you another kid friendly natural hairstyle, that is actually ideal for those of any age including adults.

This style is flat-twists and a roller set, but could be changed to cornrow if you are unable to flat-twist the hair.  The style takes roughly 30 mins to 1 hour to complete.  It should be done on freshly washed hair that has been air dried just a bit.  You can do it on soaking wet hair, but it may take the rollers longer to set.  The style should last up to about 1-2 weeks.

Below are the products that were used:

Cantu Shea Butter for Natural Hair Conditioning CoWash
Cantu Shea Butter Leave In Conditioning Repair Cream
Cantu Shea Butter for Natural Hair Moisturizing Twist and Lock Gel
Cantu Shea Butter Pomade (Sleek the Edges)
Beautiful Textures Curl Defining Mousse
Coconut Oil
Cantu Shea Butter for Natural Hair Hold & Shine Mist
Hair Pins
Perm Rods (various sizes)
Rat tail Comb
Shower Comb/Denman Brush (Detangling)

I hope you like it. Let me know if you try it on your child or yourself.

Crochet Braids - Not so 90's Anymore

Hey Everyone....I am sure when you saw "Crochet Braids", you made a face like, "Ugh....we don't want to hear about those old things" LOL!! Well, let me tell you we have certainly come a long way from the 90's version of Crochet Braids and I am so glad about it.  No longer do we use tiny braid extensions or greasy looking string weave, but we have evolved into more natural looking weaves that tend to mimic real hair.

I decided to do this protective hairstyle on my daughter again to give me a break from the daily hair styling.  Crochet braids are easy to install and take roughly 3-4 hours for the entire process.  (Washing, Deep Conditioning, Braiding, and then Crocheting). They normally last anywhere between 4-6 weeks and they are very easy to maintain.

At night you can wear the hair in a satin bonnet or put the hair into a ponytail holder and pull it back away from or face and sleep on a satin pillow case.  The next day, you will need to shake your head and fluff the hair.  That's it!!!

To maintain a clean scalp, you can do ACV (apple cider vinegar) and water mixes and rub the mixture onto your scalp with a damp wash cloth.  You can also spray a bit of water, conditioner, and an oil onto your scalp and massage it in.  Avoid getting the weave hair very wet as they can lead to tangles and matting.

Below is what I used:  (2.5) packs of Model Model Water Wave Hair, Beautiful Textures Mousse, EcoStyler Gel, Latch Hook, Entwine Couture Crème De La Mold Pomade, Brush, and a few hair accessories.

Below are Pics of my big girl and my YouTube tutorial!!!
