Tiffany Nichols Design and the Let's Talk About Hair Group Meet-up Recap

 Hey Everyone,

I was recently given the opportunity to be a guest speaker at the Let's Talk About Hair Group Meeting.  This Group is a Natural Hair Group here in Oklahoma that was founded August 12, 2011 by Kiauntra Denton-Nichols.  The mission of Let's Talk About Hair is "Our mission is to help, educate and support people in their decision to go natural and care for their natural hair. By taking care of our natural hair that would also mean taking care of the body in the most natural ways possible. We believe that this is not a “cookie cutter” approach- one size does not fit all. Through discussion and example we hope to help women find their own way and their own hair care and perhaps body care regimen that most closely fits with their lifestyle. LTAH is a not for profit support group that is here to help people of color in our community to relearn and develop a true loving relationship with their hair and body in the way God created."  Make sure you check out their website.  http://www.meetup.com/letstalkabouthair/

I was super excited about the opportunity and started brainstorming about what I wanted to present.  I could have gone the more traditional route of doing a PowerPoint presentation, (which I have done many times before), but I decided to spice it up a bit and do live hair demos.  I wanted to show the ladies, that even though a lot of my hairstyles and other natural hairstyles may seem very difficult and intricate, but they can easily be recreated at home.

I decided to recreate my two most popular YouTube video hairstyles (The videos are listed below) and show how to properly twist your hair for a twist-out and how to do a bantu knot for a bantu knot-out.  I recruited 3 hair models, my sister Brandy Sharay, who is completely natural, co-worker Joy, who is transitioning and friend Nikki, who also is completely natural.

The turn out to the meet-up was great. There were more women than I expected and everyone seemed so engaged during my presentation.  The women were very impressed by the hairstyles and shocked by how easy and quick they were to create.  They had tons of questions and we all had tons of laughs.  It was certainly a great event and look forward to joining them again.

The women behind Resilient Soul (Terrainia & Shekeeta) were there to talk about Oklahoma Naturals and some of the upcoming events they will be hosting.

Also, a few women from Black Girls Run Oklahoma City were they to talk about their program as well.

There were tons of giveaways and this was certainly an awesome event and I encourage other naturals or women that are transitioning to natural to come out every other month to meet-up with the Let's Talk About Hair group.

A Special Thanks goes to Kiauntra for extending the invite, Michael Harris of www.michaelharrisbeauty.com for doing my makeup, my 3 lovely hair models, and PJ of www.SoFocusPhotos.com for shooting the event.
